About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Sharon, I can tell just from this response you have a passion for teaching. One of my favorite motos is, "A student doesn't care how much you know until they know how much you care." Continue to be caring! You are going to develop into one of the finest instructors around because it is in your heart! Patricia
Hi Vanessa, Volume changing has always been a good way to capture attention. I also like to walk around the room and teach from different places in the room to grab attention. Patricia
Hi Scott, It is perfectly fine to be friendly with your students, but being their friend is definitely a no no. Patricia
Hi Sofhia, Practice makes perfect, and practice really does make one feel more comfortable. Preparation is the key to success. Patricia
Hi Dana, Students really love practical experience stories. You certainly have a great advantage. You can speak from real world experience. Patricia
Hi Michael, I know, students get really excited when you talk about their potential income. I direct my students to the placement coordinator to talk about the average salary in a particular area. Patricia
Hi Carol, It sounds like you have some wonderful ideas. Implement them. I am sure you will be surprise as to how exciting these ideas will be for your students. Students need to be involved in active learning as much as possible. Patricia
Hi Anthony, I am sure your students have great fun with this activity because most people enjoy food and at the same time you are really making them think outside of the box. Patricia
Hi Kathy, I agree some classes are just a lot easier to sell to students. Regardless of the class, do a quick PowerPoint presentation on Day 1 expressing the purpose of the course and the employment marketability of the course. Patricia
