About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Hilary, I have a very strict instructor on faculty, and she is by far one of the best. Students know that she is not going to tolerate any foolishness, and they act accordingly. Patricia
Hi Gayle, Great way to boost confidence. Ask them a simple question that you know they can answer. You automatically see the student's head is held high and chest is stuck out.
Hi April, These are perfect critical thinking questions. These questions really make students think hard and deep as well as out of the box. Patricia
Hi Karen, I do not utilize the logsheet, but you certainly can allow students access to review it. You just need to come up with a set of rules. Patricia
Hi Diane, Instructors need to be professional at all times so that students know exactly how far to go. Patricia
Hi Sabine, Anytime you can make the course work applicable to real life, students are automatically sold. They gain a keen interest because they want to know how to perform in the professional world. Patricia
Hi Michael, I have showed an "F" example so that students know if you turn in this quality of work, this will be the result. Patricia
Hi Lynn, I concur!! They have to learn how to believe in themselves. Some students really shine in a smaller setting. The silent student feels like a big fish in a small pond. Patricia
Hi Gregory, I tell my students that their finished product must not be identical to the one that is shown. I encourage them to use their creativity. Let them know up front you want something different, that you are only showing them a guide to go by. Patricia
Hi Keith, I concur! I always take up homework at the very beginning of class. Students need to understand that deadlines must be adhered to. Patricia
