About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Toni, It is certainly the instructor's role to control the classroom. Students should have an environment where effective learning can take place. Patricia
Hi Karen, If you are not going to grade the assignments why do you give them to students? I understand the load that we have, but all this grading goes with the profession. Perhaps you should look into which assignments are more meaningful and give those assignments and grade them. Patricia
Hi Laurie, Excellent activity! I've learned that critical thinking can be geared toward any subject matter. I like how you tie in the critical thinking with the persuasion. Students have to really think out of the box as to how they are going to convince the reader to have the same opinion as their opinion. Patricia
Hi Gayle, I do not care how you look at it, having a friendship with a student is totally wrong. You certainly mentioned some great points. Patricia
Hi Andrea, I like how you go about making each student feel important and work at gaining their trust. Once students feel like they can trust you, they will open up to you more. Patricia
Hi Kelvin, Nicely stated! Instructors should want to know if their students are grasping the information or not. Patricia
Hi Emma, Calling on students to grab their attention is truly a simple tactic, and it is no doubt very effective. Patricia
Hi Toni, I agree! Whenever examples are shown students know exactly what to expect! Clarity adds motivation. Patricia
Hi Vanessa, We are the examples our students will emulate in the workplace. Let's be effective examples and lead in every way professionally. Patricia
Hi Dr. Dunlap, I have been teaching for over 22 years, and I have found that silent students do well in a smaller setting. I really like the idea you have implemented of a panel. Patricia
