About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Bill, Students did not enroll to gain friendship from instructors. It is our role to impart knowledge upon our students not to befriend them. Patricia
Hi Heather, Instructors should never put down each other in front of students to make themselves look good. Instructors should work together as a team and not against each other. When I hear a student speaking negatively about an instructor I put a stop to it immediately, and I have a private firm conversation with the student as to how it is not fair nor professional to do such a thing and gossip will not be tolerated in the workplace. Patricia
Hi Karl, Students need to understand what is in the course for them. Great list you have compiled to get buy in from students. Students want to know how the course is going to apply to their career. Patricia
Hi Mike, Students love being shown examples because examples add a lot of clarity as to what is expected. They get to see a visual of the end product. Patricia
Hi Diane, These are effective ways to reduce cheating. During test time I am very attentive. I stand during test time, and I give my test takers my undivided attention. I do not grade papers, read or anything while students are testing. Patricia
Hi Michael, What a great organization to partnership with. I am sure being a part of this organization is a big selling point for your school to get enrollees to buy in. Patricia
Hi Stacey, Students like to be listened to. We should fully hear what our students have to say without any type of interruption. Most of the time they simply need to vent. Putting the situation in writing allows the student to calm down and vent as well. Patricia
Hi Diane, Students are sold once they understand how the course can help them in their career. Patricia
Hi Raymond, Students get great comfort out of knowing their instructor has practical experience in the field, and we can also motivate our students if we have been teaching for numerous years. These are great things to share with students to get them to buy in. Patricia
Hi Gregory, What an awesome exercise so that students learn how to accept responsibility. This is also a great way to teach students how to be proactive instead of reactive. Is the narrative on the internet? Patricia
