About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Sandy, I am certain your students appreciate how thorough you are about making course requirements clear. Students need to know on Day 1 what is expected of them. Patricia
Hi Ruby, Rapport building is important! Students will want to put their best foot forward in all areas whenever they have a relationship with you. Patricia
Hi Sarah, Your own field experiences are great to share, you can speak about it from ahaving been there and done that perspective! Students love to hear our own filed experiences as they apply to the lesson. Patricia
Hi Robert, I personally like to circulate the room. In my opinion, students are more afraid to cheat whenever they know you can be at any place at any given point in time. Patricia
Hi Daniel, Great approach for getting buy in from students. I tell my students how the course will help them in their career to promote buy in. Patricia
Hi Angela, Students need to know that we are there for them, and we are geniunely interested in hearing their concerns. Patricia
Hi Susan, Super! Once students understand how the course applies to the real world they are sold on the course. Students need to know how they will benefit from the course. Patricia
Hi Natelle, I like how you give your students a written copy so that they will have something to refer to. I have known some instructors to secure signatures so that students can not play the card I did not know. Patricia
Hi Gina, That's right, and as their instructor we should want to know if our students are grasping the material or not so that if they are not we can provide special assistance. Patricia
Hi Ruby, I have seen where guest speakers came in and students started to realize that what they have been taught is actually being utilized and taking place in the workplace. Guest speakers add a sense of validation. Patricia
