About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Daniel, Guest speakers are truly valuable in many ways. Students enjoy guest speakers. Patricia
Hi Audrey, You have great versatility as an instructor. You can really shift gears when you see things that are not going very well. Variety adds flavor to any course. Remember, students love hands-on activities too. Patricia
Hi Angela, Anytime I teach a class for the very first time, I thoroughly STUDY the material so that I can present it in a clear fashion that is understanding to the students. Getting with an experienced instructor in a course is always a good idea so that you can get pointers. I have a notebook for every class that I teach that includes notes, activities, quizzes, tests, handouts, etc. Patricia
Hi Michelle, I know this has to be tough. You may want to try the basket idea. Have a basket at the door, and the students are to drop their phone in the basket daily and retrieve it during break or when it is time to leave. Your institution should also look into adopting a cell phone policy. Patricia
Hi Georgette, I like the humor you incorporate with leaving belongings at the circulation desk. Great way to get students to corporate easily. Patricia
Hi Julie, They are great! Some guest speakers do require a fee, but I stick with the free ones because they are just as valuable. Patricia
Hi Robb, Most learners are visual. I am sure this particular exercise goes over well. Most students enjoy using their creativity to get points across. Patricia
Hi Helen, Getting students to see the benefit of the course. How the course is applicable to their career. Patricia
Hi Joan, Students love active learning. Anytime you can incorporate hands-on activities into the lesson you should. Patricia
Hi Olivia, I let my students know how the course ties into what they will need to know in their career. Students need to know how they are going to benefit from the course. Patricia
