About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi G., I make sure to include the objectives of the subject on the syllabus, which is given out on Day 1. Patricia
Hi Shawn, I concur! Putting your career in jeapordy is not worth it just because you want to befriend a student. I have known of instructors to lose their career due to befriending students. Patricia
Hi Thomas, I agree! Students know exactly what is expected of them when examples are shared. Examples add great clarity. Patricia
Hi Carol, I have been teaching in the industry since 1989, and I concur with you. This content serves as a wealth of information for new instructors, and add as a reinforcer to more seansoned instructors. Patricia
Hi Phuong, I always let my students know actually there are 3 sides to every story, person 1 side, person 2 side, and the truth. I try to get to the truth so that things are fully resolved, and the students can move forward. Patricia
Hi Gina, Great points made. I don't hover either, but I simply let my students know that they are being watched. Patricia
Hi April, I especially find this true with computer classes. They know how to utilize various features or how to do certain things, but they lack in the terminology area. Patricia
Hi Cynthia, Students deserve to learn in an atmosphere that is conducive for learning. Patricia
Hi Bryan, Great response! You certainly made some valid points. Interaction really makes a class more exciting. Students tend to really be on their toes when they know that an instructor has a highly interactive class. I like how you go about making a weaker student shine. Your entire outlook on class interaction is very positive in nature. Thank you for believing in all students. I can tell you have a passion for the profession. Patricia
Hi Paula, It is good to shed light with your students as to what is happening in the real world. We need to let our students know what they are up against so that they are not shocked when they hit the real world. Patricia
