About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Thomas, Super idea! The key words are current events. Students fully get it as to how they can benefit from the course. Patricia
Hi Karen, I let my students know just because you are tired, your boss is not going to accept your poor performance for long. When you are at work, you are expected to work. Patricia
Hi Linda, You serve as a great role model to inspire your students to let them know, if you did it, they can do it. Patricia
Hi Denise, I like how your bring in documentation to show students how the course applies to the real world...students will believe the documentation. Patricia
Hi David, Students love to hear real stories as they apply to the lesson. Practical experience gives students more as to what to expect in the workplace. Patricia
Hi Jeff, I certainly understand your perspective. I make it a point to call on all students on a daily basis and make small talk with all to ensure that I am treated all the same. Patricia
Hi Jeff, Great point made! We want to always motivate our students how education can change their lives for the better, but we also have to let our students know the purpose of each course and how they will benefit from the course. Students become more interested when they understand what is in the course for them. Patricia
Hi Sunshine, Showing students examples is definitely a win-win situation. Students know exactly what is expected of them and instructors can have the finished product to show to ensure thorough explanation. Patricia
Hi Gale, Students love it when the instructor knows their name. Calling a student by their name is certainly an attention grabber. Patricia
Hi Kim, As a rule, I never criticize students or belittle them in any way. Students will shut down on you if you hurt their feelings in any way, especially the shy/silent students. Patricia
