About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Miriam, Typically, when students take a certification course to help them prepare to pass an exam, they are excited. I like how you try to focus on strengthening the students weaknessness to help them be better prepared for the test. Patricia
Hi Rebecca, Getting silent students involved is a good way to get the student to open up. I like to ask these students questions that are more opinionated so that they are more apt to participate because there is no right or wrong answer. Patricia
Hi Cindy, I like your variations during class time. I really like how you utilize your yes claps. I can tell you have a lot of energy being utilized during this 5-hour class. Patricia
Hi Angela, I can tell you love what you do simply by your response. Hands-on activities are normally enjoyed by most students. Students are excited when they are performing and having fun while doing so. Patricia
Hi Virginia, Calmness on the instructor's part is a must whenever students are angry. No student should ever have the power in the classroom. It is always good to deal with the angry student behind closed doors if at all possible, and simply listen to the student. Patricia
Hi Melissa, Students want us to assist, but most of them love trying to figure things out own their own. I have had students to tell me let me try do it first. Patricia
Hi Jeff, Students love being shown/told real world examples. The more practical we can make it for students, the better. Students want to and need to know what to expect when they enter the real world. Patricia
Hi Jacqueline, I agree! Students can tell when you are faking it to make it. No one knows it all. Admit to not knowing and find out the answer by the next class period. Patricia
Hi Sherri, As an instructor it is always good to find your own teaching style. Sometimes it is more harmful to try to be like another instructor. Patricia
Hi Rebecca, Night students deserve the same engergy level that we as instructors give our day students. Reenergizing is key in order to keep night students interested. Patricia
