About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Michael, That's right! Just to hear someone other than the instructor say the same things you have said really add a lot of validity to the class. Patricia
Hi Maryrose, I agree! Students need to know that we genuinely care. Let our students know how much we care by handling them on a one-on-one basis if there is a need. Patricia
Hi Velma, I promise you, you and your students will love having a guest speaker present. A guest speaker has so much to offer to students. Patricia
Hi Shonna, I love guest speakers too, and I have witnessed that students love them as well! Guest speakers give everyone a gleam of hope. Patricia
Hi Kellie, I concur! What have rules if you are not going to enforce them? Rules are made to be followed, therefore the instructor must enforce them. Patricia
Hi Brenda, Attitude is everything. I have seen some students that were not highly intelligent, but they had the right attitude to work hard for success, and they did and became very successful. Patricia
Hi M. Hussain, I concur! Getting mentally prepared for a class as well as gather materials for a class are good ways to get off to a good start. Patricia
Hi Laura, It is always good for instructors to have more than one way to teach a concept. Some instructors have just one way, and that one way make not be able to reach every student. Patricia
Hi Carol, It is vitally important for students to understand the "why" of everything they learn in college. Once students understand the "why" they have more clarity and a better understanding, which makes sense to them. Patricia
Hi Roderick, As an instructor you have to have tough skin. Never take any situation personal. A lot of our students have many things going on outside of school. Listening is key when it comes to an angry student. Patricia
