Every assignment should be given to enhance the learning objective, therefore the assignment is important, and the instructor needs to do their part by grading the assignment. Our students have a busy life and giving an assignment just for the sake of giving it has no merit. Patricia

At my institution we give a lot of challening placement tests to show students that they may not know as much as they think they do about a particular subject.
