About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Karen, Me too! In the classroom, I have to add nature by keeping my blinds open. I feel way too enclosed and out of touch with things with the blinds closed. Patricia Scales
Hi Janice, You are on point! Students have a better understanding once being shown an example. Patricia Scales
Hi Ginny, I have used this same approach for years, and it has proven to be very effective. Students are a lot clearer as to what is expected of them when examples are shared. Patricia Scales
Hi Lawrence , We need to always give our students as much clarity as possible so that they have a better understanding. Patricia Scales
Hi Lori, Shy students do tend to open up a lot more whenever they are in a smaller setting. I like to give shy students a leadership role as well when being in the small group to force participation. Patricia
Hi Vicki, Most students like it when we interact with them. Students feel important whenever there is a good professional relationship between the student and the teacher. Patricia
Hi Stacy, Guest speakers can serve as a super motivator to all students. Guest speakers bring theory into real-world application. Patricia
Hi Andrea, I do not care how you look at it, guest speakers add a positive spark to any course. Students need encouraging words from other professionals other than us. Patricia
Hi Jennifer, Writing is crucial to every major. No one wants a person working for them who is unable to write a complete thought. Patricia
Hi andrea, I also like to show students different grade levels of assignments, such as "A", "B", "C", "D", and "F" work so that they are no surprises. Patricia
