About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi William, Great ways to keeps students excited. Graduate guest speakers are priceless, and they add a lot of flavor to a course. Patricia Scales
Hi Lisa, We can also share applicable stories with students as they pertain to the lesson. Patricia Scales
Hi Kathryn, Great way to be prepared for the unexpected, and you were certainly fair to your students about testing. As an effective instructor, we must know how to be flexible so that we can adjust to situations such as these. Patricia Scales
Hi Michele, Preparation is key! Preparation brings about self confidence and will definitely decrease anxiety. Patricia Scales
Hi Destiny, The student/teacher relationship should be kept strictly professional to avoid any problems. Patricia Scales
Hi Thomas, I agree! Favoritism is definitely frowned upon. Treat everyone the same. Patricia Scales
Hi Laura, Well stated. We can not go through our teaching career focusing on the "what if's", I have a few instructors they like to go into the "what-if mode", and I let them know, we can what if forever. Let's deal with things as they arise. Patricia Scales
Hi Amina, I too have binders for each course. They are my life line when teaching. My binders have everything I need in them, including written notes from each chapter. They are very thorough and have made my life a lot easier. Patricia Scales
Hi Ellen, I concur! Some students simply do not know that they are plagiarising. I have a brief session on plagiarism so that students cannot use the excuse they did not know. Patricia Scales
