About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Kimberlee, When students can feel it, see it, and/or do it, things make much more sense to them. Students tend to understand better. Patricia Scales
Hi Michael, There are goods and bads to this type of grading, but I feel as though the goods out weigh the bads, and it should be done. I have had some students to grade others really rough because they did not pull their weight. Patricia Scales
Hi Liz, Preparation is key! It is human nature to be nervous because you want to do well; just do not let the nervousness over take you. Patricia Scales
Hi TIMOTHY, Preparation is a must. I can tell you get ready for your lectures! Continue to have great preparation skills, and you will keep winning. Patricia Scales
Hi Susan, I like how you use humor to help you and your students relax. I especially like how you make the humor applicable to the course. Patricia Scales
Hi Shakil, Great list to help reduce anxiety. Patricia Scales
Hi DONNA, That's right! This is a golden opportunity to do some rapport building with your students. I also like to be the last person to leave the room at the end of class; this too is a golden opportunity for rapport building. Patricia Scales
Hi Deb, I agree! Students are not in need of another friend. They need role models that they can look up to. Patricia Scales
Hi Michele, You are on point! As educators we must maintain the very highest level of professionalism because we are being watched. Patricia Scales
Hi Candace, I agree! The student/instructor relationship should be strictly business. Patricia Scales
