About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Jered, Listening is key when it comes to an angry student. A lot of the time, they simply want to vent. Patricia Scales
Hi William, I concur, there is more of a connection when you have students, especially graduates speak to the class. Students seem to relate better to their peers or someone who graduates from their school. Patricia Scales
Hi Debra, You will continue to get this type of student. Have a private conversation with the student and let them know how academically gifted they are, but they must have professional behavior with the intelligence in order to make it in the workplace. You may even want to have your placement coordinator speak with the student from a workplace standpoint/professionalism. Patricia Scales
Hi Dr. Lindsay, Great advice! We all have problems. Students just need to learn how to deal with life's problems so that they can achieve goals that they are working toward. Patricia Scales
Hi Lisa, My experience is that most students are proud to have their work used as an example, however I do understand your perpsective. Patricia Scales
Hi Blossie, Nicely stated! You are right on point about gaining buy in from students. Continue to get your students to see the big picture. Patricia Scales
Hi Bill, Get with the sociology instructor so that you know how to better present this to your students and for your understanding. Patricia Scales
Hi Tammy, When students know exactly what is expected of them, the grading period will go well for the students and the instructor. Patricia Scales
Hi Debra, Give students a THOROUGH explanation on Day 1 what is expected of them. Patricia Scales
Hi Teresa, It does get them excited. Students want to know how they are going to benefit from the material. Patricia Scales
