Hi Tim, I have had students to become very angry when their team members were not pulling their share of the weight. I talked to the team, and I explained how important it is to work in a group and do your part. In the real world there may be times where working in a group is necessary, and if you do not pull your load, you can possibly be terminated. No one wants to be labled as a slacker, therefore, it is crucial to display great work ethic. Patricia
Hello Tammy, I am a 19-year seasoned instructor, and I always review my lesson. I do not care if the review is only for five minutes; I could have taught the course 100 times. It just makes me feel better and really prepared about what I will be presenting. Patricia
Hello Tammy, You are right on point! At my educational institution my instructors must stay 30 minutes extra to take care of students at the end of class. You will be amazed what is shared with you at the end of class if you provide time for the students. Things that have been shared with me at the end of class, such as, needs tutoring, wants to talk about personal problems, wants to tell about an annoying student, wants to make me aware of cheating students, etc. Patricia
Hi Lisa, I am a firm believer that "Experience is the best teacher." Students enjoy hearing your stories/experiences relative to the course content. Patricia
Hi Tammy, It is a very smart tatic to relate the information to pratical applications. Students get excited when you tell them this is how this information is going to help you when you begin your career. They see the relevance of the information when the information is presented from the perspective of their work field. Patricia
Hi Linda, Tell me what tactics you picked up from this book. Do you used any of the practices from the book? How has the book made you an effective teacher? Patricia
Hello Kristin, Your question/discussion period is a good way to get students interested and involved in the course content. Using online tools are very effective in getting students excited. How do you go about using the online tools? Patricia
Hello Kristin, It is a challenge to deal with students who think they know it all without having taken the course. I like to challenge these type students so that they can determine they do not it all, and they must humble themselves because they have alot to learn about the course. Patricia
Hello Marta, What an exciting and creative way to get students involved and interested in their course content. Students have in mind by doing this project what employer they would like to work for, and they also become more knowledgable about the company. Your students can actually see the end product of what they are trying to accomplish by researching. I am sure it is so encouraging to the students to see how Anderson Cooper of CNN has incorporated the new forms into the Presidential debates! Patricia

Hi Becky, I am pleased that you were able to get some great ideas from the course. I find it hard to believe your institution does not have policies in place regarding cell phones, late students, food and drinks, etc. The policies at my institution are as follows: *Cell Phones-Cell phones must be turned off; if the cell phone goes off, the student MUST leave the room, and it counts as an absence and any work due or done on that day will be graded a "0". *Late students-students have a 10-minute grace peroid to get to class; if the… >>>
