About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Mark, At my institutiion we try to make it a practice for new instructors to team teach before actually teaching on their own. We have found that this practice helps the new teacher get better prepared for upcoming courses. Patricia
Hi Mark, It is imperative to make known the objectives and expectations on Day 1. I like the way you gauge the students input, what a clever idea! Adults like to know that their input matters. Patricia
Hi Robert, I make it a point to memorize my students names on the first day of class, regardless of size . I am good at memorizing names. I generally STARE at the student for about 5-8 seconds and associate something with their name to help me remember. I always impress my students on the first day by memorizing all the students names. Patricia
Wow! With all the technological devices, we as educators have to become even more creative with our techniques for monitoring cheating. Patricia
Hi Robert, I have never heard of class starting so early. I imagine you would have to do something to wake up your students and yourself. Patricia
Hi LaWanda, Students are excited to come back to find out about Part II (cliffhanger). It is a job as an educator to motivate your students to want to return to class. Patricia
Hi Troy, Younger students tend to have a lot of energy. Class involvement is key whenever it comes to any type of student. Patricia
Hi Marvin, There is generlly one in almost every class that "centerstage" student. I like to professionally and tactfully break down these type of students to let them know that there are some things that they don't know, haven't seen/done, etc. Patricia
Hi Mark, Getting students to bit in early is key. Our kinesthetic learners love placing their hands on items they will be using as well as your other type of learners. I love the eagerness and excitement of wanting to get started and learn. Patricia
Hi Marvin, What a super class activity! No one knows your belongings better than you. Students enjoy talking about their possessions. Patricia
