About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

You are so right. It is very hard to remain upset if the person you are dealing with is professional. It reminds me of killing people with kindness, instead we as educators use professionalism. Patricia
Hi Jackie, As an instructor, those type students that claim they did not hear a particular assignment/rule explained rub me the wrong way. Patricia
Hi Richard, I have come in contact with a few of these students myself. If they feel they already know the material, they will not pay attention as much, and they make it known they have worked in the area. Suprisingly, these students do not do much better than any other student. Patricia
Hi Thomas, I always take control! I do not let my students change the subject. On the first attempt of trying to change the subject, I nip it in the bud in a very firm but kind manner. Patricia
Hello Mark, There is nothing like an instructor that has a lot of nothing. Students will pick up on the short comings quickly and begin to complain. Patricia
Hi Charles, You are right on point! A disgruntled student can definitely poison the class. The disgruntled student must be taken care of immediately in order to prevent negativity to others. Patricia
Hello Bharat, To prepare is a MUST! As educators, we know a lot, but you are right Bharat, we do not know everything. Absolutely, learn from your mistakes! Patricia
Hi Bharat, It seems as though you can always get more done with one-on-one discussions when an angry student is involved. Patricia
Hi Jason, As an educator, you must appear to be very confident in the classroom. Once a student determines the instructor is not confident, the instructor has lost all credibility. You must make a presence every day you walk in the classroom as the instructor. Patricia
Hi Rich, Mistakes should make you a better instructor because hopefully as an instructor you will not make the same mistake twice. A mistake is really not a bad thing as long as you learn from the mistake and do not make the same mistake twice. Patricia
