About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Casey, Absolutely, you must deal with complaints head on. I've known some instructors that try to ignore complaints. Ignoring complaints only makes matters worse--you must deal with them instantly. Patricia
Hi Tony, Our jobs as educators are very challenging. We have to adapt to many different personalities and attitudes. You are on point, each student is different, therefore, we must learn how to deal with each student individually. I've noticed you can say something to one student a particular way, and you may not be able to say those same words to another student. We must be mindful of the student we are dealing with. Patricia
Hey James, It is great whenever you can avoid most problems, but when you can't, you do know what needs to be done. Patricia
Hello James, Aren't brain teasers great? I even use them whenever I notice that my students are getting tired. We should share our brain teasers. I have tons. Patricia
George, I am in agreement. As the old saying goes, "whenever you mess up, fess up." Own up to your mistake and move forward. After all, no one is perfect. Patricia
Hello George, There is nothing more effective than having a one-on-one discussion with a student. One-on-one discussions work magic for a lot of different situations. Things are generally resolved with a one-on-one discussion. Patricia
Hi George, Surprise tasks are always nice. These tasks normally bring much excitement and generate a whole lot of focus. Patricia
Hello Edna, I never understood how one could teach and sit. I am constantly on my feet. Using various media is always a plus due to the different types of learners. Patricia
Hello Evelyn, WOW, what a response! Your organization comes through in your writing. I was able to read your response painlessly, and I thoroughly enjoyed your response. You remind me of one of my most organized instructors. Actually, she is the most organized person I've ever met, it seems as though you will give her a run for her money! :-) Patricia
Armando, As a rule of thumb, I double check/triple check material before presenting, and I present in a way as if no one knows anything. Patricia
