About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Bernard, You have great characteristics as an instructor. You seem to be a good listener, an effective monitor, extremelely helpful, and very personable. Continue to shine! Patricia
Hi Eric, You've said it. As educators, we are not our students buddy. We are their instructor. Being a student's buddy can cause all type of problems. I've seen what the teacher/buddy system can cause--it's not good. Patricia
Hello Eric, You must be fair to all of your students. No one students should ever receive special treatment. The minute students realize you have favorites, you have just ruined your reputation. Treat every student the same, and you will always come out on top. Patricia
Hi Eric, Some people think they can do whatever they like. They also feel as though they can do things when they want to as well. We have to be the role models and teach them and show them the way. Patricia
Hi Jim, Isn't that true? Everyone makes mistakes and always will. Learn from your mistakes and move forward. Generally, we grow to become better humans by making mistakes. Patricia
Hello Jim, I've learned over the years, it is best not to sugar coat anything with your students. Honesty is key. I've always treated my students, the way I would want to be treated. I've watched some instructors talk down to students, which is wrong. Students are people too. Patrica
Hi Michael, Students do what to know that they have a voice and that they are being listened to. Actually, I had a question/answer session in my class today, and as always it went over well. You must be able to control these type sessions because I have seen where they have gotten out of hand. Patricia
Hi Edward, Enthusiasm is such a trickle down effect when it comes to education. If the instructor is not excited about the course, of course, the students are not going to be excited. Stay excited Edward! Patricia
Hello Steven, The key is dealing with minor issues before they become big problems. I like to keep an open line of communication between my students and I. Patricia
Hello Stu, Finding common ground with a student is always good. By finding common ground, you generally can reach the student. Patricia
