About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Sir Roy, You're right, all you have to do is to learn a student's interest, and the student will automatically listen an totally attentive to the subject matter. Continue to be creative with your teaching strategies. Patricia
Hello Philipp, Our profession is very challenging and trying. Keep working hard and trying. It sounds like you take a great and professional approach to various situations. Patricia
Hi Philipp, These type of students can be extremely exhausting. I try to make it a point to let the student know that he or she does not know everything by challenging the student on a particular assignment, question, activity, etc. I do not do the challenging in a humiliating way though. This technique normally humbles the student tremendously. Patricia
Hello Jesus, Nicely said! A student has to want his or her education for himself or herself, otherwise the student is wasting his or her time and wasting someone else's money. Patricia
Hi Phillip, You sound like you are doing the right things to get your students interested and involved. Keep it up. Patricia
Hi Victoria, Great point. I have had some challenges with with these type students as well. I generally have to give these students more one on one. Patricia
Hi Burke, It is important to students to know that his/her instructor cares. Continue to be a caring instructor, and you will impact many lives positively. Patricia
Hi Julie, Wow, in my more than 20 years of teaching I have not encountered students that have had the attitude they will not learn anything from a female instructor. You do a great job handling this. Patricia
Hi Rick, Continue to keep your students engaged! Students love to know that they instructors are available to help them. I like the idea of you getting input from your students as to how to make the class even better. Keep up the good work! Patricia
Hi Gabriel, Nicely said. You are right. You are not unique to a number of students attending your institution with police records. I've encounted many of these in my 20-year tenure. These type of students are survivors, and they can "read" you easily. They will quickly determine wether you are genuine or fake. Patricia
