About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Jennifer, Some students will open up to you and others will not. The biggest thing is to find someone they will open up to. Patricia
Hi Jennifer, Students love to have examples to go by, and students also love real world examples. Keep up the good work. Patricia
Hi Roger, Nicely said. Excitement in the classroom is definitely a trickle down effect, starting with the instructor first. The instructor needs to set the tone. Patricia
Hi Rejandra, At times you do have to deviate from the book and put concepts in your own terms to get students to understand. I rarely teach verbatim from the book. I've learned her to put things in plain language to students. Continue trying to think out of the book. Patricia
Hello Roy, I am there with you. I experience the same things with the classes I teach. When a class meets once a week, it is imperative that the student comes, especially the not so bright students. Catching up in a course after having miss so much can be a bear. Patricia
Hi Eric, Studens love it when you can share practical experience. It is always good to get students thinking about the big picture (graduation). Keep striving to motivate and encourage your students. Patricia
Hi Roy, What a good way to show everyone they know something about the subject matter. This idea eases a lot of pressure, and I am sure make students feel more comfortable. Continue to make your students feel at ease. Patricia
Hello Sir Roy, Beautifully stated. Just as sure as we are human, we are going to make mistakes, simply try to correct your mistakes. Patricia
Hi Philipp, Fellow instructors have a lot of great advice to share with others. It is always good to pick fellow instructor brains. Patricia
Hi Sir Roy, How do you use class discussions to work out complaints pertaining to your lecture? Patricia
