About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi Brad, What benefits have you gathered from having your work done a week in advanced? I too try to get my work done a week in advance for each course. I share this tactic with my inexperienced instructors, and they quickly realize the benefits of it. Patricia
Hi Scott, What type of signals do you see from those who party-it-up at night? Have you really seen a big difference in those who are brought from the back to the front? Patricia
Hello Charles, It is bound to happen, we will make mistakes. It is no way around making mistakes. No one is perfect. Even the instructor is imperfect. Patricia
Hi Charles, Great points made! Also, the more you teach a subject matter the more comfortable you will become, and soon you will be a pro in the subject matter. Experience is the best teacher! Patricia
Hi Harold, Have you make the mistake of not writing down procedures? Written information is great for many reasons. How detail oriented are you when it comes to keeping records? What type of records do you keep, if any? Your thoughts are right on point! Patricia
Hello Jose, Yes, students do want to know ahead of time what learning will take place. The advanced notice gets students very excited. Afterall, it is part of our job to keep our students interested and involved. Keep up the good work! Patricia
Hi Justin, What type of activites do you normally give your students to let them know that they are important, and generally how do the students react to the activities? This is a very smart tactic to use with this type of student. Patricia
Hello Jose, It appears that you are on top of things, and you do a fine job of keeping your students engaged. Students need to be and want to be engaged. Continue to peak your students interest. Patricia
Hi Philippe, Punctuality is important on the instructor's part too! How punctual are you for your classes? I believe in leading by example. If you expect your students to be on time, then you should be on time. Patricia
Hi Wayne, Absolutely, you must let students know that you are in control, and you refuse to put up with their foolishness. Nip disruption in the bud immediately. Patricia
