About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hello Mike, Nicely said! If you belittle a student, especially in front of others, it is only natural for the student to try to belittle you to save face. Alwys give students the utmost respect. Patricia
Hi Mike, I've learned it is always better to be over preapraed instead of under prepared. When you are under prepared it is very obvious to the students. Patricia
Hi John, I've been told by students right out of high school that they come to college because that's what their parents want. It is not always what the student wants. I've seen some succeed, and I seen some fail. Patricia
Hi Russell, Bottom line, show them the benefits of the course content, and they will get interested and involved in the process. Patricia
Hi Roberto, Your bottom line says it all! As educators, we must do this! Patricia
Hi Roberto, Absolutely! Student must know the WIIFM. Once the WIIFM is established constant motivation and encouragement begin. Patricia
Hello Aimee, Students will immediately attack you if you follow the rule of inconsistency. Students like consistency. Patricia
Hello Amiee, I have experienced some students are real distant. They do not want to develop a relationship with you. Once I since the student does not want to develop a relationship, I accept that, but I still treat the student the same as my other students. Some students automatically put up a fence. Patricia
Hi Aimee, I love during evaluations at the midpoint as well as at the end. You may be able to fix some things throughout the module, if evaluations are done at the midpoint. Patricia
Hi Stuart, Once you get the students to see the benefit of taking math in their program,I bet they work hard to be succesful in math. Students must understand the relevance of the course they are taking to their field of study. Patricia
