About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hello Jannie, Whenever students have concerns, it is best for the students to voice their concerns rather than the instructor voicing the concerns for them. Department heads listen when students voice their concerns either verbally or through written communication. Patricia
Hi Jannie, Rapport building with students is very important. If you have a rapport with your students and if you make a mistake, the students are not hard on you. They accept the mistake as simply being honest, and they do not make negative judgement. Patricia
Hi Novella, I like the idea of the confidentail information. I am telling you, students will tell you more than what you ever wanted to know. You will learn a lot from this tactic. Patricia
Hi Chris, Excitment is key. Excitement is definitely a trickle down effect. Patricia
Hi Lisa, I have an open door policy too. Students take full advantage of my open door policy, and they appreciate it. When students enter and ask the question, "Are you busy"? I respond never too busy for you, and I immediately stop what I am doing to take care of the students because students are the most important customers. Patricia
Hi Lisa, You are on point! A backup plan is always a lifesaver! Patricia
Hello Hope, What a perfect fit for this course. This will definitely benefit them when they enter the work force. Patricia
Hi Kim, It is a super tip! I use this teaching tactic quit a bit. Patricia
Hi Novella, I feel as though this move will penalize those that sit up front. Don't make the whole class suffer because of a select few. Deal with the select few and make it known that you will no longer tolerate their disruptions. Patricia
Hi Carrie, The many excuses are not going to be acceptable in the workplace. Students have to accept responsibility. I like how you put the students in control of their education. I especially like the idea of the free pass. Patricia
