About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi William, Continue to prepare, practice, and become familiar with course content. Each time you teach you will become more effective. It is important to build a rapport with students. Rapport building does allow for smoother/better conversations. Patricia
Hi William, Absolutely! We have to make it known to the students on Day 1 and throughout how they will benefit from the kowledge obtained. Patricia
Hello William, I always put a blurb in my first day presentation, "if you know a lot about this course content, please be humble because I can assure you, you will learn some new things." Remember, no one knows it all, not even me, the instructor. Patricia
Hello William, You're welcome. What have you been doing with the occasional disruptive student? Patricia
Hi Terri, In what situation that has occurred with you could this idea have been utilized? Patricia
Hello Hilary, Absolutely, change is a must. There are no two classes that will be the same. Patricia
Hi Hilary, It is truly amazing what listening can do to help calm a situation. Patricia
Hello Edward, I've always had the thought that respect is earned not demanded. Students will respect you based on your professionalism, demeanor, attitude, etc., simply by the way you conduct yourself. Patricia
Hello Abigail, I can attest to this as well. I let the students know immediately, this is college. Patricia
Hi Edward, No two classes can be taught the same way due to having different students. We as educators must be very flexible. Patricia
