About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Hi B. A., It is fine to allow the vocal students to set the stage for the more silent students, but please be very careful to not let the vocal students run the show completely. Patricia
Hello Mary, You really try to communicate with your students effectively. You've mentioned several different ways to try to converse with your students. You exhaust every avenue. I can tell you are there for your students. Patricia
Hi Mary, I take the same approach to grading as you do. I think it is a very fair approach, and the students appreciate the attitude toward grading. Patricia
Hello Quesstonnal, Excitement starts from the very top. Generally, when the instructor is excited about the subject matter, the excitement trickles to the students. Students need energetic instructors. Patricia
Hi Quesstonnal, Having a guest speaker is a great way to validate various concepts you've taught your students. Students enjoy guest speakers. Patricia
Hello Quesstonnal, Each student should matter to the instructor, and each student should be made to feel very important in the classroom. Patricia
Hi Quesstonnal, I agree. What do you think is the role of the instructor and the student? Patricia
Hi Lori, Great points expressed! Every student is different. Some students really benefit from seeing examples, other students will do well regardless. I always loved examples when I was a student. Patricia
Hi Lisa, Great strategies that minimize cheating. Patricia
