About me

I've been a career educator for over 20 years. I currently serve as the Academic Coordinator for Brookstone College of Business and continue to be active in the classroom as a Business Instructor. My motto is "A student doesn't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." I was honored to receive the Career College Association National Teacher of the Year award in 2001. I just love teaching!

Activity

Hi Lawrence , Students need and want clarity. Students tend to do better when things are clarified. Patricia
Hi Chara, Great idea! As a way to ease fear about public speaking, I allow my students to start off giving a 1-minute presentation and each week we increase the presentation by 1 minute. Patricia
Hi shawn, I teach professional ethics as well, but I also demonstrate it to my students through my actions. Patricia
Hi Abigail, At my institution as a part of academic freedom, the instructor can have a guest speaker at any time. Patricia
Hi Diane, Students really become motivated when they receive positive feedback from the instructor.

Do you look at teaching as a profession or a passion? Some will respond by saying both, others will respond by saying profession, and some may even respond by saying passion. I have a strong love and affection (passion) for the teaching profession. I look at teaching as my passion. I absolutely love it, and I would rather not do anything else other than teach! Students quickly pick up on my extreme excitement for teaching!

Hi Susan, If a student is caught plagiarising, they recive an "F" on the assignment, no question about it. We have an institutional cheating policy at my school so that consistency is maintained with the policy. All students are reprimanded according to the policy. Patricia
Hi Crissia, Some students will not come to you for help. Sometimes the instructor has to make the move so that the student will open up more and be more willing to ask for help. Shy students are a work in progress. We should not ever wait for any student to come to us if we know that they are struggling. Patricia
Hi Carole, I love the idea of the bell. Our placement person informs the instructors when students are hired, and we share the great news with our current students. This is a super way to get students excited and encourage them to work hard so that they can get to that point. Patricia
Hi Kay, These are great ways to great course relevancy across to students. Graduate guest speakers are the abosolute best because they can really relate to the current students. Patricia
