Activity

Some active learning techniques that are considered low-risk are discussions in small groups and laboratory activities which are both something I can implement in my class.

Critical thinking and analytical thinking are important for active learning and engage the students more than doing something like copying down vocabulary words.

Some concepts I have learned about gamification that I can apply is the concept and guilds and badges. Guilds can motivate the students to work together and help each other learn and badges can inspire healthy competition among the guilds.

Something that I have learned from this module that I can use to improve my teaching is the increased use of discussion boards in this class. Discussion boards can help students reflect upon that week's material while also engaging with other students.

In an online course, keeping organized records is very important. Emails are the most common form of communication between the instructor and students that need help.

In an online course, an asynchronous discussion allows for more participation by the students because students are able to read others' contributions and write their own at their own pace and is friendly towards students across multiple time zones.

Having the instructor provide a biography as well as the students is a good way for instructors to establish an authority online and for students to get to know each other.

To be an effective online instructor, it is important to understand how to navigate the online tool that the students are using.

There are many different learning styles and having variation in your teaching style as well as your lecture format will help the students learn more effectively as well as keep their attention better.

A good way for teachers and students to learn each other's names is to display name tents on desks. A good alternative to traditional ice breakers is for teachers to introduce the students instead.
