Activity
It is one of our annual goals to rework our Academic Habits of mind to have the employability skills clearly articulated within the rubric. These are reported to students and their parents on our quarterly reporting.
This module was a gentle reminder of the importance to crosswalk CTE and Core standards as they compliment each other and can bring the curriculum alive for students.
Having not be in the CTE world aside from administration the last few years it would be important to make sure the standards I was using are appropriate for today's learners in the CTE and industry areas I was teaching. Working with industry partners and state associations would assist in this process.
This module was a good reminder to be more relationship focused in written communication with student and peers/work peers. Validation is such a huge piece of positive communication in every format.
I appreciated hearing the message of helping students arrive at learning moments by leading them to their own thoughts/ideas rather than solving these for them. Students need the power of solution making! They are capable and we need to let them shine while supporting them through the process.
It is very valuable having a reminder to be an active listener. I appreciated the specific points on how to provide positive feedback. I will try the SNIP method.
This has validated one of my core beliefs which is that the foundation of any relationship or learning is a positive relationship. I will share the coaching pieces of the lesson with my staff as they are good reminders.
Having students create a portfolio, use learning logs, and using rubrics to help assess student growth are all important aspects of a successful and impactful WBL experience. I would like to explore this in our program going forward.
I learned many schools are lucky enough to have a dedicated individual for their WBL programs. I also learned that many states are requiring a WBL certification for teachers.
Safety should be a priority for all stakeholders and by helping business partners understand their role and also protections more successful WBLs can be initiated and sustained.
