Career development is heavily influenced by experiences, interactions and learning opportunities throughout life.  Career choices are not always planned step by step, but are often shaped by relationships, environment, unexpected opportunities and personal growth.

Career development is not just about matching a person to a job, but also about growth, adaptability and lifelong learning.  People's interests, skills and goals can change over time, so career paths often evolve through experiences, education, and opportunities.  I learned the importance of helping students build self awareness and transferable skills rather than focusing only on one career choice.

Retention and transition are important parts of long term career success.  Retention focuses on maintaining positive work habits, communication, professionalism and adaptability in order to succeed in a position.  Transition focuses on handling changes in careers, responsibilities  or life circumstances in s productive and professional way.

Preparation and commitment stages are important because they help individuals become ready, confident, and focused before entering the workforce or pursuing career goals.  Preparation includes building skills, practicing communication, creating resumes and preparing for interviews, while commitment involves showing responsibility, professionalism, and follow through.

the assessment & investigation stages are critical for truly understanding a student's strengths, interests, barriers and goals before jumping into solutions.  Effective assessment is more than just paperwork, its about listening, observing and asking the right questions and gathering information that helps create meaningful opportunities and support systems.

Strong community and industry partnerships don't just happen, they have to be intentionally built through communication, trust and shared goals.  Partnerships can create meaningful opportunities for students by connecting classroom learning to real world experiences, internships, career explorations and mentorships.  Maintaining relationships with local businesses, organizations and community members so programs stay relevant and supported.  In small, rural communities those relationships can make a huge difference for students and programs alike

Parental engagement increases when schools provide clear communication and meaningful educational opportunities for families.  Parents are more likely to support programs when they understand the purpose, benefits, and opportunities for families. Parents are more likely to support programs when they understand the purpose, benefits and opportunities to their students.

Trust and transparency are essential for building strong relationships between schools, families and communities.  Open communication helps create understanding, support, and shared commitment to student success.  I also learned that when schools involve parents and community members, students benefit from stronger connections, more opportunities and a greater sense of support both inside and outside the classroom.
