Setting clear expectations and building relationships from day 1 creates the foundation for a successful year.  Students need to understand not only what is expected but why those expectations matter.

Course content needs to be intentionally designed with clear learning objectives, engaging activities and meaningful assessments.  Lessons should build on one another while providing students with opportunities to apply what they have learned through hands on experiences and real world problem solving.

The first day of class sets the tone for the year.  Students need to know what is expected of them, but they also need to feel welcomed, respected and valued. Building relationships and establishing routines early creates a positive learning environment where students are more willing to participate and take ownership in their learning. 

Effective teaching begins long before students walk into the classroom.  Careful planning, clear learning objectives and preparing engaging activities help create a learning environment where students can be successful.  Being flexible is also important, lessons may need to be adjusted based on students understanding and classroom dynamics.

Positive reinforcement should be woven into daily routines.  This year I am working on creating a workplace culture where my students are expected to be responsible, respectful and engaged while recognizing their growth and accomplishments.  My goal is to shlep students develop confidence, character and life skills that will prepare them for both careers as well as everyday life.

The PERMA model reinforces students learn best when they feel connected, capable and valued. My goal for my classroom is have students leave at the end of the year with confidence, life skills and a sense of purpose.

Creating a positive classroom culture begins with building strong relationships and setting clear, consistent expectations.  When students feel respected, valued, and safe they are more willing to engage, take risks and learn from mistakes.   Making an effort to recognize students strengths, their growth and positive behaviors will reenforce it.

Multicultural fluency is about respecting diverse perspectives and communicating effectively with others.  Modeling inclusion in the classrooms and develop the understanding  and collaboration skills they will need to work successfully with people from all backgrounds. 

To ensure career planning is successful there needs to be planning, continuous learning and adaptability.  As a teacher these concepts can be applied by encouraging students to set SMART goals, explore career opportunities and build skills and work habits that will help them succeed throughout their lives.
