This statement touched a cord with me: 

When course time is short and learning is proceeding slowly, work on the material that will bring the greatest reward with the least effort. Plan to accomplish first the learning tasks that will bring the highest reward for your students. When you assign the important tasks first, you often motivate them to continue working until even more difficult responsibilities are completed. Triage thinking forces you to make sure that what you are requiring of your students is essential to their career success.

Students will respect you more if they know you are asking of them the very same expertise levels that the working world requires and that they will be assessed the same way that the working world assesses its workers.

Treating the classroom/laboratory as a simulated work site where students adhere to the "real world" requirements will help them to acquire the discipline needed for positive career growth.

Students like variety in delivery to help keep them focused.

Make sure to cover the course requirements and go over the course syllabus. 

Goals and objectives provide a clear guide to the concepts and principles that need to be covered in my course as well as giving me a good framework from which I can develop the syllabus or course outline.

Instructional style involves wrapping together your personality and competencies into a presentation format that will inform, encourage, and instruct your students.

 Educators can help by being available to listen as students release their grief. This connection provides stability and reassurance during a difficult time.

By increasing knowledge about the subject of suicide, teachers can be better prepared to identify suicidal students, respond to suicidal ideation, and refer them for appropriate professional help. 

It is estimated that one of every 11 high school students attempt suicide each year.
