It is important to talk with students to see what their needs are and not stereotype what we think they need.

Universal design, while not legally required, is helpful to have equal inclusion for everyone, including those with disabilities.

It was interesting to learn that it is common for students to have learning disabilities like ADHD. It is important to accommodate these students.

I have learned that students with disabilities have the right to accommodations under Section 504 and the ADA.

I learned that while FERPA protects student records, it also helps students gain access to and make amendments to their educational records. Interestingly, FERPA allows an institution 45 days to comply with a student's request to review their records.

It was good to learn that the guidelines for the release of educational records must have written permission from the student. It is great to learn that students' information is kept private.

I learned more about FERPA, how it protects students' educational records and allows students to access them.

I learned how you can help as a bystander. I also learned how OCR helps keep schools in line that don't hold perpetrators accountable.

I learned how, through Title IX and VAWA, institutions are required to take cases seriously related to grievance procedures. Institutions have to put effort into these areas to have a safe work and learning environment and build a better culture at these institutions.
