Hi Amanda- Thanks for your post to the forum. You are definitely addressing all the learning styles in your classes - great work! Best wishes- Susan
Hi David- Wow! I could not have said it better myself! You are handling your students perfectly - well done. Best wishes - Susan
HI Amanda- Yes, if the students are honest with themselves they will get real information about what they are doing right and what is lacking. Of course if they are not honestly assessing themselves it is up to us to step in. Best wishes-Susan
Hi David- Thanks for your post to the forum. If we take our role as teacher seriously, as you point out David, we have a huge amount of responsibility to our students and to our schools to ensure that they learn what was said they would learn in the admissions process. Best wishes - Susan
Hi Patricia- Thanks for your post to the forum. In a discipline such as yours , the bottom line is - can the student apply what they have learned? Can they use EXCEL, or set up a network, or install an operating system etc. If they cannot, they have not obtained the compentencies set for our classes. Best wishes- Susan
Hi Heather- Thanks for your post to the forum. This situation can indeed be frustrating. Is it that we let too many students "slide" through the gen eds? Is it that the students just studied for the test and never treally got it? Whatever the cause, as you point out, we are the ones that have to deal with it. Do you have any suggestions or ideas you can share? Best wishes- Susan
Hi Richard- thanks for your post to the forum. I also like take home essays for the same reasons you cite. Do you grade those essays differently than essays they may write in classroom assessments? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Maureen - thanks for your post to the forum. I really believe in, like you, taking every opportunity to demonstrate how what they are learning relates to our students'future jobs. Making it relevant is important! Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Trudy- Thanks for your post to the forum. Isn't it amazing how students react when we make the effort to reach their learning styles? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Kenneth- Thanks for your very interesting post to the forum. I agree that many of our students at the introductory level are deficient in writing and critical thinking skills. I applaud the fact that you do however ask them to write in your classes. If not, however will they improve? Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
