Hi Eva- welcome to Ed 103! Especially in the open admissions environment/e.g.no SAT required ,we need to be able to evaluate starting points for our students. Remedial work may be required but often the instructor, with that knowledge of the student's abilitites, can be of enormous help. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan

Hi Sarah - You might try asking a question and then quickly say something like " Anne, I know you know this answer but let's let someone else have a try." Or you could have a private conversation with her acknowledging that she is very bright and that the material comes easily to her but that we need to give some of the students more of a chance to participate.
