HI Rumia- Thanks for your post to the forum. Using a variety of assessments is the wise way to go. It will address the various learning styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Robb - Excellent point - this really helps students to recognize the relevance. Susan
Hi Bernie - thanks for your post to the forum. Another benefit of having students volunteer to demo is that as you coach the student through it the technique is reinforced in their minds. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Robb- Thanks for your post to the forum. Those pre-tests will also show you where you need to concentrate and will also be useful after the course as students take a post-test or summative assessment and can by comparing, see how far they have come. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Jamison- Time really can become quite an issue. We all have students who just work slowly and deliberately. Timed tests can be a real problem for them. And of course as you mentioned, we are always rushing to get grades out asap. Susan
Hi Jamison- Thanks for your post to the forum. It's true that students (and everyone else!) dislike being wrong, especially in public. As you mention open-ended questions gets students participating by eliminating that fear. Best wishes- Susan
Hi Patricia- Thanks for your post to the forum. I agree that sometimes if the class is stalled on a question it can help to give them a part of the answer as it often gets the class to make the connections and arrive at the answer. Best wishes-Susan
HI Benjamin- Thanks for your post to the forum! You gave us some great examples of tools we can use to reach all the learning styles. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career! Susan
