Hi Colin - Thabks for your post to the forum. You bring up a significant point. In effect, our students are paying "clients". As such we do not give them whatever they want if we know that it is not in their best interests ( e.g an "A", when they have earned a "D")but we do need to give them the very best education that we can and that necessarily includes the best resources available. Best wishes! Susan
Hi Nydia- Thanks for your post to the forum. As you mention, instructors need to vary their delivery to reach the diverse learning styles of their students. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Antonio- Thanks for your post to the forum. Are your pop quizzes calculated into their grades? If so, it can help to have a regular weekly (sometimes even daily) quiz. Students will be less inclined to miss class as it will probably affect their grade and studednts overall will be better prepared. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Nikki- Thanks for your post to the forum. As you say, taeching to our students' learning styles eliminates frustration and does improve retention. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Eddie- Thanks for your post to the forum. Having groups with diverse learning styles is a great learning experience for our students. This is a window on the teams they will be part of in their future careers. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Colleen- Thanks for your post to the forum. I liked your ideas for opening up student questions to class discussion. The question asker will feel that their question had some real significance and as you say - it keeps everyone from "tuning out"! Best wishes - Susan
Hi Charles- Thanks for your post to the forum. Choosing your assessment based on the discipline being taught is a good strategy. Application testing may be more appropriate for a culinary class, while multiple choice or essay would be the choice for a humanities course. Best wishes- Susan
Hi Melissa- Thanks for your post to the forum. CATs prevent us from wasting time by teaching info our students already know and also by preventing us from moving ahead when our students are not in a position to proceed. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Nathan- Thanks for your post to the forum. You are using a very thoughtful approach as you plan your assessments. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
Hi Robert- Thanks for your post to the forum. If we just make an effort to include diverse delivery as much as possible, we are doing a good job of teaching to the learning styles. Realistically we will not be able to do it in EVERY class but often enough. Best wishes for continued success in your teaching career. Susan
