About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Ava, Thanks for sharing these very good examples of what can happen as you prepare for class. I have been in your situation on numerous occasions. One of the worst is a too cold room and no way of changing the temp. I teach from 4 until 10 so I to am alone in trying to make sure everything goes well. The night my students were freezing I went everywhere looking for someone that could help. Never did find anyone. Moved the class to the student lounge. Understanding learner characteristics...

Hi Charles, You are correct about some students being able to transition their learning preferences to the presentation style and being successful. These students need to be encouraged and developed but they aren't in need of the same supports as are the students that are challenged by the instruction is occurring. This gives you more time to focus on their needs to help them be successful. Gary
