About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Briscoe, This is a good way of show personal interest in your students. When you know some of their life experiences you know how to approach them when they need encouragement and support. Gary
Hi Douglas, The method you describe of meeting and greeting the students each time they enter the class is a good way to keep your finger on the pulse of the class. This will enable you to make changes as they are needed rather than having to react to serious issues that have emerged over a period of time. Gary
Hi Michelle, You make a very good point about tailoring instruction to meet the needs of individual students. Customized instruction is important to keep students engaged while meeting the needs of the total class. A challenge but one that is fun because it lets you be creative in your approach. Gary
Hi Tim, Good balance to how you set the course up for the students. This way they know the requirements and expectations. They are given examples of what they will be doing plus your own personal experiences of how you achieved career success. Gary
Hi David, Well said. Your forum comments outline the core of why teachers to what they do. That is show students they care about their success and give them content that will enable them to achieve their career goals. Gary
Hi Joseph, You make a number of good points about the way you introduce your course to advanced students. They need to see how your course is a part of the building blocks toward career success. This sets the stage for relevancy and application on the part of the students. Gary
Hi Heather, You are right about having a good learning environment set up for the students. When teaching online if the students know that you are there for them and care about their success they will be more engaged. You are doing all of the right things to make learning happen. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi David, Students thrive on competition and you have given the students an opportunity to demonstrate their skills plus win besides. Everyone comes out better for the activity. Good job. Gary
Hi Gabriel, Good plan. You method of letting the students back draft into the course content helps them to see relevancy and application. They will retain material longer by seeing the necessity of having the information. Gary
Hi Misty, Good feedback will result in better instruction if we listen to our students. Each time we teach a course we can become better in all the components through their feedback. We should never fear it but grow from it. Gary
