About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Lola, Well said concerning the learning environment. There needs to be a balance between all of the environmental factors and the instructional delivery. A level of trust and comfort needs to be in place for each student. Gary
Hi Keith, You make a number of good points about how you can help students get the big picture in terms of their education. They need to be shown application, relevancy and transferability of their newly acquired knowledge and skills. If they can see that they will be ready to go. Gary
Hi Warren, I like you want to know my students better as I prepare my instructional delivery. The use of the "base line" measurement really helps in that area. With your quiz you are getting a feel for where your students are and how to plan for their learning. Gary
Hi Wendell, The key point for me of your forum response is "making it real" for your students. You are a person of great experience that is willing to share the experience with others if they will take the time and effort to acquire the knowledge and information you put forth. Gary
Hi Gregory, Thanks for sharing these strategies with us. I am sure they will be of benefit to the participants. Gary
Hi Wendell, Good way to start off the class. Your students see you as a knowledgeable and caring instructor that wants the best for them. In addition, your expectations are made clear for them so they can be ready to go to work once the introductions are completed. Gary
Hi Sabrina, Great approach to making everything clear for your students and then reinforcing it through the individual contact you have with your students. Your students know you care about their success as evidenced by your follow up. Gary
Hi Helen, I bet your students enjoy your classes. You have a great sense of humor. Your use of humor gets your students' attention and keeps them reading the online posts concerning what ever they need to know about such as weather. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Edward, Great check list of things to do in getting ready for class. The point you make about testing the technology is a good one. We need to make sure to do the testing to avoid problems later. If you are like me technology hates me so it will do anything it can to fail me. So I have to check and recheck it over and over again and I still hold my breath to see if it will work when I need it. Gary
Hi Rulon, Well said in terms of your describing a supportive and inviting learning environment. I to like color and "stuff" that helps to engage the students in the learning process. I want the classroom to welcome the students. Gary
