About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Patricia, Not only do you bring a wealth of experience to the setting you have experience in dealing with all types of personalities. You can't have been in a nursing setting for all these years without having learned to handle all types of people in all types of situations that involve stress. Bringing this to the instructional setting you are truly training the next generation of health care professionals in such as way that they will have extensive knowledge and skills. Hi Darlene, You make a number of very good points but one I want to focus on is your comment about students knowing that you will advocate for them. If they know you will go to bat for them to get supplies, equipment, etc. They know that you care enough about their success to want the learning environment to be right when learning is to occur. The Learning Environment Effect

Hi Darlene, As a person in the medical field you know well the human anatomy. As the old saying goes "the brain can only absorb as much as the body will allow". Sometimes in our push to teach we forget this point. We have to factor in changes of pace, and activities that will allow the student take a bit of a cognitive break while refocusing their attention on what is coming up in the next segment. Gary

Hi Erik, You make a key point. That is student understanding of relevance. Helping them to see that what they are learning today will help them tomorrow. Students often miss this concept since they get caught up in trying to complete the current requirements of their courses and lose sight of the big picture that this course has a part in playing in relation to their future.
