About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Becoming aware of retention strategies...

Hi Dave, You make a number of very good points about helping students to feel that they are a part of the learning process. The one about encouraging them and letting them know they are doing well is powerful with non-traditional adult learners. Hi Gregory, All good points that you make. A major point is the one you make of trying to talk with each student individually. I do this with all of my students. It is a part of the inclusion process. I want them to know they are a part of the class and that I am there to help them succeed. Gary

Your Instructional Style

Hi Cynthia, By being a good manager you can reduce a lot of stress as an instructor. You don't have to worry about things going well in the class because you will have developed and run off the handouts, laid out the materials for the demonstrations and reviewed the lecture notes. This gives instructors a peace of mind as the class time approaches. Gary

Matching Content to Need

Hi Chan, I am big on demos as well. Personally I really like ice carving and have attended a number of shows ranging from Alaska to Florida. Each time I am amazed at the artistic ability of folks like you. Gary
