About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Melody, Well said. Role models are a must for everyone entering any career field. They need to know what are the key components of success in their field. By being organized and managing their time well being two of the essentials. You are doing a good job of helping them to learn both. Gary

Hi Dianne, I commend you for your effort. A new start every three weeks takes a lot out of a person. By focusing your energy you are able to do so and I know your students benefit from your efforts. Gary
Hi Christine, Stopping and doing a quick check with the students not only lets you know where they are at, it also lets them catch their breath and let their brains rest a bit, then they are ready to go again. Gary
Hi DJ, Spoken like an instructor that truly enjoys the opportunity to teach. The interaction with students can greatly life your spirits and get you excited about the upcoming class. This also sets a positive tone for the students as they enter your class. Keep it up! Gary
Hi Dianne, Great to hear. I know you are going to have a great time in addition to building a stronger rapport with each student. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Lyn, You have developed an excellent format for your online instruction. You set an example for the students that is professional yet lets them know you are there to help them with the course when needed. Thank you for sharing this format. I know it will benefit other online instructors. Gary
Hi Diane, Great to hear about the wonderful role models you have had in your educational career. By having these folks as examples I know your own professional development has been enhanced. Gary
Hi Ann, Good point and good example. Hopefully the first day is positive enough and sufficiently engaged for the students to the point they will want to stay for the entire "movie". Gary

Hi Vicki, Good comments. The key is to stay fresh when the newness has worn off and the reality of class, plus life pressures have set in. This is when we need to refresh ourselves, pause a bit, have a little fun and then get right back into completing the course with vigor. Gary
Hi Kathy, You are dead on with your comments. We have to be models and professional in our approach. I have found that the majority of my students do not have positive role models in their lives so they don't have anyone to measure against as to what a professional in their field should look and act like. You are setting the standard for them so keep up the good work. Gary
