About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Sharing Comprehensive and Clear Course Requirements

Hi Teresa, Well put. Instructors do have a very large responsibility and need to work hard to make sure they provide from their side all the direction they can to their students. By doing so they will reduce confusion and frustration on the part of their students. Gary

Motivating Learners

Hi Alexandria, Great to hear. Developing rapport with students to me is one of the greatest pay offs of our work. Once we have that rapport and respect with students they view us in a mentor role as well as their instructor. I have the honor of hearing from students that I had years ago. They share both their personal and professional lives with me and I get to witness their journey through life. What a great feeling to know I had a small part in helping them to be successful in their careers. Gary

Becoming aware of retention strategies...

Hi Kenneth, Thank you for this great response. You did a wonderful job of laying out the retention situation for all instructors. As you say it is very simple. A good relationship with students. If you have rapport and they respect you for what you are doing then they are going to stay in their program. We need to stay simple and focused in making the effort to show our students we care about their success and their future. Gary
