About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Katie, I call this "connecting the dots". When you show the students the relevancy of what you are teaching them they can ramped up and excited about their studies. This also helps them to capture a vision of how their careers can be developed. Gary
Hi Roger, Thanks for sharing this information on how you encourage your students. Reminders like this really make a difference with students. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Gregory, Little things like bonus points can serve to get students ramped up and ready to do their very best. Things like this also gets the students excited about them being able to show off their new knowledge. Gary
Hi Angela, The more information that you know about your students the more accurate your pre-course planning can be. Also, you can target your instructional delivery to help support the learning needs of your students. Gary
Hi Kay, Right you are about the difference between the two delivery methods but as you say planning is planning. By being precise in your planning you will be able to stay student focused in your instructional efforts. Gary
Hi Susan, You have a great plan for laying how you will do your planning and then implement that plan. This method will ensure that you are staying student focused in your efforts and are able to make any adjustments as they are needed. Gary
Hi Michael, This is a great way of helping students to see the relevancy of what they are studying. The current event articles creates a connection between the class content and the students themselves. Gary
Hi Linda, Good point about sharing experiences that you have had in the field. Students really connect with these stories and can see themselves in these very same situations. Good way to increase excitement. Gary
Hi Karen, Good strategies for reaching your students. The opening of a class with a quote or application example helps to make the class real for the students. You are also showing students application and relevancy in what they are studying. Gary
Hi Dr. Viar, Right you are. This type of professional behavior sets the tone for the class and gives the students a clear idea of how they should conduct themselves once they are out in the work place. Gary
