About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Maggie, Great way to establish a connection with your students. Your are right when they feel such a connection they will be more motivated to put forth the effort required for success. Gary
Hi Dr. Miller, Right you are. By not putting forth the effort to prepare for your classes and students you are showing that you are not a professional educator nor are you a model for your students. Gary
Hi Charles, You are helping your students to "connect the dots" between what they are learning and how they are going to use that information in the careers. This helps the students to have an model that they can use when they are in their careers. Gary
Hi William, What a great set of life experiences you have had. Your story is inspiring and a model that students can use in their own lives. They need to reflect on what you share with them as they struggle to come to class and handle life issues. You have been a life long learner and I commend you for this. May you continue in your teaching career for years to come since you are an exciting and dedicated teacher with a story to tell. I wish you the very best. Gary
Hi Kay, Good point. This is a great advantage to online courses, no cell phones. Makes me want to teach more online courses so I don't have to deal with the phone issue. Gary
Hi Kay, Your review method is a great way to keep the upcoming assignments in the course fresh in the minds of the students. Also, they can get their questions answered so they can focus on course projects rather than fretting about what is expected. Gary
Hi Jacqueline, I like your method of having the students write about why they chose the profession. This gets them to settle into the course and express their career aspirations in writing. This brings clarity to their efforts. Gary
Hi Raquel, Without soft skills students are not going to be successful in their careers. I commend you for including these essential elements in your course offerings. Gary
Hi Michael, This is a great example of how to bring everyday applications to complex content. Also, your point about helping them be able to hold their own with other healthcare professionals when they out in the field is a good one. By them being able to do this you are doing a real service to the career development of your students. Gary
Hi Navinthran, You are right about the students at times needing a mentor. As a mentor you can help them with their career growth and personal development as new professionals. Gary
