About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Kevin, This is a critical point that is often lost by students. Their credibility needs to be established with the instructor because the instructor is many cases going to be serving as a reference and the instructor needs to have a positive image of the student's professionalism. Gary
Hi Natalie, Good definition as well as a good goal. By being able to communicate the knowledge that is needed by students and help them develop the skills required of the field you will have fulfilled your role as an educator. Gary
Hi Kelly, Little thing like the posting a picture has value added benefits for students. This helps you and them to get to know each other better plus it helps to personalize all of you. This is a good way to help create the learning community you are after. Gary
Hi Daniel, Right you are. I can tell that you have had extensive experience in working with and ramping up people. By setting the positive tone you have them ready to go to the next level of learning. We have to continually be forward focused. If we aren't then our students won't be either. Gary
Hi Eric, When you students complete their training will they be working with all animals or do they focus on one area, such as equines? Gary
Hi Scott, Welcome to teaching. I hope you have a great career as a professional educator. Seek advice and input from your fellow instructors. They will enjoy sharing their experiences plus you will benefit from their knowledge. Keep up the professional growth and before long you will the resources and skills needed to feel very comfortable in the classroom. Gary

Hi Melissa, By being willing to receive feedback and then make changes if possible you are reflecting a very positive professional attitude needed by all educators. Keep up the good work. Gary
Hi Nolan, This is where WIIFM comes into play. They have to see What's In It For Me. Once they see that then the light comes on and they get really excited about the education they are receiving. Gary
Hi Eric, Right you are about the need for real world experiences. Students often have challenges in making the transition from the classroom/lab to the real world setting and the pressures that goes with it. Gary
Hi Stacy, This is what developing rapport with students is all about. They know you care about their success and that you are there to support them when they need it. This keeps them coming to school even when times are tough. Gary
