About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Hi Fortuna, I believe you are offering a very valuable service to your students when you suggest they create a support system for themselves. Many of them don't know what such a system is nor how to set one up. By you showing them how to create such a system their success rate is going to be higher and satisfaction greater. Gary

Hi Wayne, I like to use a grading rubric as well. The rubric guides me as I evaluate the work of the students and it gives them clarity on where they are earning and/or losing points on their work. Helps to make everything clear for everyone. Gary

It is a very important document and just as you have done many instructors have their students sign that they have received the course syllabus and have reviewed. Hi Arlene, I love your approach to math. They don't have to love the subject but they do have to be successful in it if they are going on to the next phase of their college careers. Learning from Instructor and Student Introductions

Hi Jerry, I wish you the best in your introduction of ice breakers. They are low stress, fun to do and gives students a chance to create a relationship with other students. By talking and laughing together the first class meeting they forget for a minute or two how nervous they are about being successful in the course. The nerves will pop up again but by that time they know some of the other students and little bit more about you the instructor so the isolation is not so strong and they start to see that they can be successful… >>>

Feeling Accepted Helps with Success

Hi Catherine, This is a great example of how to "draw" out shy students without putting stress on them. They get to find their comfort level, contribute in the group and then share with the total class. I am sure they appreciate this approach very much. Gary
