About me

I am an Education Advisor/Consultant for MaxKnowledge. I write courses that assist in the professional development of career college instructors. These courses range in content from the introductory level to advanced instructional development. I started my teaching career as an instructional technology teacher on the high school level, completed graduate school and then moved into higher education. I spent many years in the area of teacher training at the University of Nebraska. While at the University of Nebraska I stared working with career college instructors to improve their instructional delivery skills. As a result of these experiences I have been a consultant to career colleges throughout the United States and a number of foreign countries.

Activity

Hi Kim, Good professional development plan for the instructors. They are getting both content as well as direction from you so they can seek instructional improvement with guidance. Gary
Hi Charles, Good points and well said. We need to remember that we are shaping lives everyday we teach so we need to be prepared and organized for every class. Gary
Hi Paul, I have the students put away their cell phones, period. I don't want to see them or hear them, period. I am very pointed about this from day one so this ceases to be a problem and the students can focus on learning. Gary
Hi Santiago, Good way to start the class. High energy and excitement helps to engage the students and move them forward in their education. It is a performance just as you say so we need to be "on" each time we enter the classroom. Gary
Hi Daniel, Right you are in terms of both respect and rapport. They do go hand in hand and need to be a two way street between faculty and students. When these two works are in place then learning can move forward toward the common goal of the course. Gary
Hi Chad, This is an important point. Students want to know the WIIFM (What's In It For Me) plus the ROI (Return On Investment). By showing them in relation to currency you are setting the stage for their success and motivation. Gary
Hi Carrie, You are right on target with your efforts to help students develop their own support systems. If they can do this their success will be much higher as a result of them knowing how to cope with issues as they surface. Gary
Hi Robert, Thank you for sharing these retention strategies. All of these items contribute to students staying in and completing school. You are offering both content and personal support to enable them to be successful. Gary
Hi Victor, Good advice for all instructors. We need to remember to reinforce our students so they can continue to progress in their career development. Gary
Hi Claire, I really like guest speakers as well. They reinforce what we are telling the students in class as well as getting them motivated to keep putting forth the effort to be successful. Gary
